Congratulations on embarking on your Porcelain Veneers journey! To ensure the success of your treatment, here are a few essential steps you need to follow.
AT HOME MAINTENANCE
Your veneers should be cared for just like all your other teeth. Proper brushing and flossing techniques should be used. Whilst porcelain wont decay, your natural tooth structure can. This means you need to keep the veneers free from plaque. Always use a soft toothbrush along with fluoride-based toothpaste that isn’t too abrasive. Some teeth whitening toothpastes can be abrasive and cause damage to tooth structures.
As with natural teeth, veneers can break / chip / crack under extreme pressure. Try to avoid foods that “snap” such as lollies, nuts etc. Habits such as fingernail biting can also cause breakages. The nightguard provided at your next visit will protect your teeth
overnight.
DENTAL MAINTENANCE
Regular 6 monthly cleans and check-ups are necessary to the long-term stability and appearance of your
veneers. Any small problems can be found in the early stages, and therefore can be corrected. Postponing these appointments can result in the need to replace an entire restoration.
The shade of your veneers will not change. Regular whitening may be required if you wish to match your remaining teeth to the veneers.
Provided you look after you veneers and maintain the 6 monthly check ups and cleans, your veneers should last a long time. If a veneer chips or breaks, we can replace it simply by remilling it, we have it saved on file.
WARRANTY
At Adelaide Cosmetic Dentistry we have a 5-year sliding scale warranty. If a veneer breaks or chips within the 5-year warranty period and 6 monthly check-ups have been attended, the veneer will be covered as followed: 100% first year, 80% second year, 60% third year, 40% fourth year, 20% fifth year. Any further replacements will be at your own expense after the 5th year.
GETTING USED TO YOUR NIGHTGUARD:
If this is your first time wearing a nightguard then consider the first week as an adjustment. After dinner each night wear your night guard for a few hours, this will help you get use to the feel of having the nightguard in your mouth. At first you might salivate more than normal, this may continue for a few nights but should improve after your first week.
CONCERNS YOU MIGHT HAVE:
If it feels tight on any teeth we should adjust it. If you attempt to wear it after its been ‘out’ for a period of time. You may find it no longer fits. Your teeth have shifted. We will need to adjust appliance. If you have any concerns about your night guard please call our rooms. We want you to be comfortable to ensure you are able to wear your night guard every night.
CLEANING YOUR NIGHTGUARD:
Rinse your night guard and brush with toothpaste. Only use cold water, as hot water will distort the nightguard. You may find your appliance will discolour over time, this is normal.
Please bring your night guard with you for all dental appointments.
IMPORTANT: DOGS LOVE TO CHEW NIGHT GUARDS! ITS AN EXPENSIVE SNACK.
